Yuma City Council took action Wednesday night to increase pay for first responders and all other city employees.
The city’s police and fire departments will begin their ten-step pay plans on July 1.
City Council approved a hybrid plan for the Yuma Police Department (YPD) where they will start off with three percent raises and then reach five percent raises.
Police officers will now start off at $52,000 per year and will see a three percent raise every step until they reach their fifth step. At that point, they will get a five percent increase, reaching a cap of $73,274.
This new plan will increase officers’ midpoint pay from $51,296 to $56,467, an approximately two percent increase.
The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) will implement a three percent raise for each step reached.
YFD will start their firefighters off at $49,000, with a maximum salary of $63,934.
The plan will increase their midpoint pay from $59,486.50 to $60,893, a more than 10 percent increase.
