Hundreds of migrants kicked out of shelters for poor behavior

Hundreds of migrants that arrived with the migrant caravan back in November are now living in the streets of Mexicali due to poor behavior.

“Here everyone is welcomed with open arms. We give them the necessary things they need to survive,” said Luis Buen Dia, a volunteer at the Alpha Omega Shelter in Mexicali.

Many of those migrants are facing the consequences and now living in the streets of Mexicali.

“Reasons are they become drug addicts, they are not following the rules or getting drunk every day,” said Buen Dia.

About 200 migrants have been dismissed and some have surrendered themselves to immigration.

“When this happens we have to call the police and some of the migrants voluntarily surrender to immigration to be deported back to their country,” said Buen Dia.

Buen Dia said that as they prepare for the second migrant caravan to arrive in early February, they will stop receiving men that he said cause most of the problems.

“We will be receiving more groups of families. Also, women who travel alone with their children at this shelter,” said Buen Dia.
