Migrants set immigration office on fire in Mexicali
Police said around 25 Honduran migrants, who were detained in a Mexicali migrant center, tried to set the place on fire Wednesday.
According to Mexicali police, Honduran migrants caused the riots. They demanded to be released because they didn’t want to be sent back to their country. Officers said they burned a mattress to try to set the center on fire.
“They damaged the restrooms. They then started throwing restroom pieces outside so nobody could get closer. That is what we figured out that moment, so we had to stay outside. We then saw some smoke from the fire and we couldn’t get inside to see what was the situation,” said Mexicali Fire Department Chief Gabriel Gomez.
No injuries were reported.
The group of migrants came from the migrant caravan seen last year. The group was all sent to Tijuana.
