Man back in custody six years after escape
A man who escaped from custody in Yuma more than six years ago is back behind bars.
Raul Dominguez, 25, was placed back in the Yuma County Adult Detention Center Monday and appeared in Yuma Superior Court Tuesday.
He is facing two separate cases.
One for his in initial arrest for criminal trespassing and assaulting a police officer in January 2013.
Yuma Police said Dominguez was allegedly jumping from yard to yard near 24th Street and Engler Avenue. When officers finally caught up with him he was in a trash can nearby, police said. Dominguez is accused of punching one police officer causing the officer minor injuries.
During his appearance in Yuma Municipal Court, he made a run for it.
“Being put back into the van, with numerous other prisoners to go back to the jail he wound up escaping. during the escape he also wound up stealing a vehicle,” said Sergeant Lori Franklin, Yuma Police Department.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it got Dominguez back into custody off of warrants. After being in Federal Custody he has been released to the Sheriff’s Office.
