Future events at the Imperial Sand Dunes during partial government shutdown

A popular area to go ride ATVs and shoot movies has become affected by the partial government shutdown.

The Imperial Sand Dunes is not only busy all year, but is now canceling future events.

The ‘Discover the Desert Day’ is a family event and is held to celebrate filming on public lands, specifically “Return of the Jedi” from the much beloved Star Wars franchise.

The event was scheduled for February 2, 2019.

With more future events in question, a day to clean up the desert is still happening.
Due to a partnership with LANDS/United Desert Gateway (UDG) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the 22nd Annual Sand Dunes Clean Up invites volunteers to help keep the dunes clean and safe. This is not only a family event to explore the desert, but a free pass weekend.
