Gadsden Elementary District Marching Band returns from Rome

The Gadsden Elementary School District’s Marching band is back in Yuma after performing the New Year’s Parade in Rome, Italy.

Over 70 students and parents had the pleasure of being invited to perform in several plazas before marching down the Grand Via Della Concilizione to St. Peters Square.

We spoke with Felix Armenta, a drum line instructor who said it’s the Hispanic culture they like to share which makes them so popular around the world.

“Well, everything comes from our background.”

Felix said the students have a love for music and are influenced by living next to the US-Mexico border.

“It’s more leaned to the Latin community and away from the traditional marching band.”

The trip to Rome comes after being invited to perform in London and Madrid in the last few years. Felix said their next stop can be ‘anywhere’.
