Multiple dead in six-vehicle pileup near Marana

Multiple people are confirmed dead following a six-vehicle pileup on Interstate 10 north of Marana, Ariz. Friday afternoon.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, troopers had put out an attempt to locate (ATL) at 12:14 p.m. for a reckless driver heading eastbound on Interstate 10. Authorities believe the vehicle crossed the median and struck an SUV head-on. A semi-truck then struck the initial wreck which began a chain reaction collision. One of the six vehicles involved was a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office transport van.

AZDPS said two deputies were on board along with a prisoner but none were seriously injured. All three were transported to UMC in Tucson.

Four individuals were confirmed dead, according to DPS officials.
