Yuma Samaritans come together for homeless family
A family of six from California is looking for a fresh start after a hardship left them homeless in Yuma.
It started with this photo of a man named Carlos and his four children walking around Yuma with everything they have in a cart. The photo has now gone viral and has brought Yumans together to help the family get back on their feet.
“I lived here for a long time and I never have seen any family been out on the streets like this.”
Christy Roach is a resident of Yuma. She saw the photo go viral on Facebook, and decided to show how the community can be a light to their journey;
“The dad is walking around with his kids and it’s getting cold outside,” said Christy. “It just caught my attention and I know there’s a lot of Yuma County residents that want to help and give donations.”
The family of six moved to Yuma from Los Angeles for a fresh start, but a personal hardship left them on streets for the last few days.
“When you see something like that, you want to help out.”
Christy has opened a GoFundMe account to help the family get back on their feet. Because of the family’s situation, they did not want to be on camera. They also do not want to stay at a family shelter because the parents are not married and do not want to be separated as a family.
They are staying at a local hotel while they continue to find a job and do the best they can while their children attend school.
