Getsemani Church extends help to migrants south of the border
The Getsemani Church in San Luis, Ariz. has been giving back to the community for 18 years but this year with the migrant caravan that’s heading north to the United States. Now, they are looking to extend a helping hand to families at the San Luis Port of Entry.
A 20-local volunteer came together to collect food and water for those in need just south of the border.
Getsemani Church pastor Jose Castro said that with the second wave of the caravan heading towards our area, they want to lend help with what they do have.
“Now with the necessity that there is with the migrant caravan here and that they are still coming, we are extending our hands to help all of these people. These children, these families that are looking for a better life,” said Castro.
The church is preparing to serve more than 800 meals on both sides of the U.S.- Mexico border. He also added that there is a tremendous need to help these families.
“These caravans have children. There are women, women who are pregnant, young men, and women. The necessity is tremendous and we have to have compassion for these people,” said Castro.
The church, along with Campesinos Sin Fronteras, and San Luis High School will be teaming up together next week to bring food to the migrants who are waiting just south of the border.
