Sureos 13 gang member arrested by Border Patrol

Border Patrol agents arrested an admitted gang member suspected of illegally entering the United States Wednesday morning.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the incident happened at about 12:51 a.m. Calexico Station agents arrested a man near half a mile east of the Calexico West Port of Entry suspected of illegal entry. Agents discovered that the man was a Mexican citizen who was illegally present in the country.

Authorities conducted a record check that identified the man as 32-year-old Hugo Juarez-Hernandez, who had a previous criminal record. Juarez-Hernandez was convicted in 2005 for use of a firearm in a felony robbery and was sentenced to 13 years in prison. He had also been removed from the U.S. on March 13, 2018.

Juarez admitted to being a member of the Sureños 13 gang out of Gardena and will be detained pending criminal prosecution.
