CBP officers confiscate over 380 pounds of marijuana

This week, over 380 pounds of marijuana were confiscated by Customs and Border Protection officers in two separate incidents at the Raul Hector Castro Port of Entry in Douglas, Ariz.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the first incident happened Monday night. Officers referred a 26-year-old Arizona woman driving a Chrysler sedan for further inspection following an alert made by a CBP canine. A search led to the discovery of over 250 packages of marijuana scattered throughout the Chrysler. The drugs weighed almost 315 pounds and were estimated to be worth over $157,000.

On Tuesday morning, a 45-year-old man of Agua Prieta, Sonora, was referred for further inspection for his Ford SUV after a canine alerted officers. A search of the vehicle led officers to find over 69 pounds of marijuana, worth almost $35,000.

Both individuals were arrested for narcotics smuggling. Authorities seized both the drugs and vehicles.
