Locals weigh in on how Trump’s announcement could affect the border
As the migrant caravan continues its journey towards the United States, President Donald Trump announced Thursday that the U.S. will take measures to keep those seeking asylum out of the communities we call home.
The President said the days of “catch and release” are over.
“Under this plan, illegal aliens will no longer get a free pass into our country, but lodging meritless claims in seeking asylum. Instead, migrants seeking asylum will have to present themselves, lawfully, at a port of entry,” President Trump.
He instead said that there will be “massive cities of tents,” but did not specify on what side of the border those tents will be on.
Locals weighed in on the announcement. Some said migrants are looking for a safe haven.
“I just feel like they’re leaving their country for a reason and that reason is probably safety and they should have the ability for the United States to keep them safe,” said Sue, a local resident.
While others do not want to see migrants in their communities.
“Well, I don’t want the community. definitely not. They’re not citizens. Where do they go? I mean they don’t have, we don’t want a tent city at our border on our side of the border,” added Linda, a local resident.
