Gubernatorial candidate John Cox’s campaign trail brings him to Imperial Valley
He’s currently second in the latest polls, but that didn’t stop California Gubernatorial Candidate John Cox from visiting the Imperial Valley.
He told residents why he think he should be the golden state’s next governor.
The California Governor hopeful witnessed the conditions of the Salton Sea and the health problems it has caused residents.
Cox believes that politicians at the State Capitol have forgotten about the Imperial Valley but promised if elected, he won’t do the same.
“In my administration, I’ll make sure that this area gets the help that it needs and make sure that we redevelop this area so that it can be a wonderful resource for the people of not only in this valley but the rest of California,” said Cox.
Cox mentioned that he wants to continue developing the resources the valley has to offer.
“This area produces two-thirds of the winter vegetables that are eaten by all of us at our dinner table. That is a tremendous benefit to not only this region but the rest of this country. We ignore this at our own peril,” Cox said.
One of his selling points to workers is more affordable housing and keeping the price of food and gas down.
“The average Californian cannot afford to live in California. That’s the sad fact and that’s why people are moving out of the state,” said Cox.
Eric Brandt, the owner of One World Beef, said residents are tired of not having their voices heard.
“I think everybody’s excited. I mean you can just see it in the applause. These are hardworking Californians that have been forgotten for years,” said Brandt.
Cox hopes to close the gap in the weeks leading to the midterm election.
