Mexican shelters prepare for migrant caravan
Shelters in Mexicali are preparing for the influx in migrants that is projected to hit their area next month.
Altagracia Tamayo, with Centro Comunitario de Bienestar Social Cobina A.C., explained that her shelter can only house 300 people.
Tamayo said she needs donations to help the many that are coming with little to nothing.
“They come day after day from other countries like Honduras, Guatemala, the Cubans, Venezuelans, South Koreans. It’s diverse. In Mexicali, Baja California, in parts like Tijuana, Tecate. We’re receiving all of the immigrants,” said Tamayo.
Centro Comunitaio de Beinestar Social Cobina A.C. is already taking in families. She provides them with warm meals, clothing, and medical treatment.
Centro Comunitaio de Beinestar Social Cobina A.C. is just one of the shelters in Mexicali and said they will be having a meeting with other shelters and organizations to see if more shelters can be opened.
