ICSO warns of phone scam

The Imperial Valley Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of yet another phone scam.

ICSO officials said someone is calling residents and telling them they have a warrant for their arrest because they missed jury duty. They offer a payment plan to avoid being arrested.

Officials said they will never call anyone and ask for any personal information or request any type of payment to clear up a warrant. These calls are scams.

Scott Sheppeard, ICSO Chief Deputy, said some calls may be coming from out of the country judging from accents heard over the phone.

“It’s very important that people call their local jurisdiction and whether that’s a police department or the sheriff’s office to verify whether or not it is in fact a scam, and do not provide any personal information over the telephone. This type of thing is happening almost daily,” Sheppeard said.

ICSO can be reached at (442)265-2000.
