Eighteen-year-old arrested with more than $170K worth of meth
Border Patrol agents at the Nogales station made three arrests after finding nearly 150 pounds of methamphetamine during two separate incidents over the weekend, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
CBP said agents working at the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint referred an 18-year-old male to secondary inspection after a canine alerted to his vehicle Friday morning.
During the inspection, agents discovered 53 packages of meth weighing more than 58 pounds, hidden in the vehicle.
The meth is worth more than $175,260.
Forty-eight hours later agents referred a 26-year-old woman and her female passenger to secondary inspection at the same checkpoint.
Agents discovered 38 packages of meth concealed in the vehicle.
The meth’s worth was approximately $271,140 and weighed close to 90 pounds.
CBP said all three suspects were arrested for smuggling and the meth along with the vehicles were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
