Man convicted of attempted murder arrested for re-entering U.S.
Border Patrol agents working at the Sonoita station arrested 50-year-old Salvador Gomez for re-entering the United States illegally Sunday morning, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
CBP said a fingerprint and criminal records check led agents to discover that Gomez was convicted in 1994 in Fullerton, Calif., for attempted murder.
He was sentenced to five years in prison and now faces criminal prosecution for re-entering the U.S. as a felon.
Gomez will remain in federal custody to face illegal immigration charges.
