American Red Cross ’emergency’ need for donors

There is an emergency need for all blood types as the American Red Cross is seeking donors to alleviate a shortage of blood and platelets across the region this summer.

The Red Cross said there is less than a five-day blood supple at hand.

The five-day supply is projected to meet the needs of patients and to be prepared for emergencies.

Type O blood is especially needed because it is the most transfused blood type and can be given to patients with any Rh-positive blood type. Type O negative is a universal blood type and can be given to any patient.

Anyone who donated blood or platelets between July 30 and August 30, will receive a five dollar Amazon gift card via email.

The Red Cross in Yuma County is located at 2191 S 4th Ave B.
