Senator says detained migrants are in sub-par conditions
EL CENTRO, Calif. – The deadline for the federal government to reunite thousands of separated children with their migrant parents is Thursday; but more than 450 parents may have been deported while their children remain here in the U.S. making that promise difficult to keep.
Democratic members of Congress like California’s Diane Feinstein have been critical of the Trump Administration, especially after the longtime Senator said her staff visited the El Centro Border Patrol Station, saying they are not equipped to handle the number of detainees and she is concerned that similar conditions exist at other CBP temporary detention facilities. Senator Feinstein says children there have had problems with food, access to water, basic hygiene, adding that some migrants were being held longer than they’re supposed to be and left sleeping on crowded concrete floors, all this according to San Diego’s Union Tribune.
They were told by Customs and Border Protection that the facility is in compliance.
