Residents weigh in on local roadway construction

The construction in Yuma has been a hot topic all summer and it isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon.

The most recent project is between 36th Street and West Desert Hills Drive near the Yuma Civic Center. Since it’s a residential area, we wanted to know if it has caused a major inconvenience for neighbors. Surprisingly, there were no complaints, one even stating that they have seen a decrease in cars and traffic since the construction began.

City spokesperson Dave Nash explains why this area needed such major makeover.

“Cracking that was paved over which was creating a very bumpy road surface and not good for your vehicle and not good for your vehicle to be driving on that at 35 miles an hour. We are going to get that all smoothed out with a brand new surface down there that should last a while,” he said.

The construction is said to be under a 70-day contract, having started July 5th. The budget for the project was about half a million dollars.

The city said the construction will be finished by the end of September.
