Man arrested for allegedly taking inappropriate photos of women
Calexico Police arrested a man for allegedly taking inappropriate photos of women while they shopped.
The man was identified as 23-year-old Jaime J. Sampayo. He was arrested Tuesday afternoon.
Sampayo allegedly walked behind women as they shopped and then knelt down behind them pretending to tie his shoes. Police said he would put his cellphone under their dresses and take pictures.
Police said one victim reported feeling something strange and when she turned around found Sampayo pointing his cellphone under her dress.
The victim reported the incident to the store’s loss prevention officer.
Police arrested Sampayo just as he was about to leave the store.
Sampayo is a Mexicali resident and is free on bail.
Police took his cell phone and will carefully review it for evidence.
So far only two victims have identified Sampayo as the man who did this to them.
Police reviewed surveillance footage, found more victims, and want to contact them.
“If last Tuesday you were at the Calexico Walmart and you had an encounter with a subject who made you feel uneasy, who matches the description of the subject and behaved similar to the way we described earlier, please contact the Calexico Police Department,” Lt. Armando Orozco said.
Sampayo is charged with voyeurism. If convicted, he could face up to six years in county jail.
