Yuma Regional Medical Center hosts health career camp

This week, Yuma Regional Medical center began its medical career camp open to student volunteers as young as 15 years old.

In order to be a part of their junior volunteer program, students must be at least 15 and have parental consent.

Junior volunteers must be enrolled in high school or recently graduated from high school.

Junior volunteers partake in at least three or four hours of service per week for a minimum of one semester or during summer break.

If accepted in the volunteer program, students are then able to apply for the summer camp.

If interested in applying for the camp, volunteers must write a 300-word essay on volunteering and kindness.

The summer career camp is a unique experience because students are able to prepare for medical careers even before they enter the workforce.

Students are able to be a part of a working hospital by touring the ER, watching demonstrations in the operating rooms, simulating labor and delivery and even take an up-close look at the YRMC helipad.
