New mural lines the wall of Yuma International Airport
As travelers arrive and leave Yuma International Airport, they see a new mural giving them a taste of what Yuma has to offer.
“The airport is a gateway and people coming in, you want to have the best impression ever. So having art and having other things incorporated is very important to let these people, travelers know what we’re all about,” said Lia Littlewood, Littlewood Community Co-Op.
Lia Littlewood is one of the three artists behind the mural. It took her, Stefanie Littlewood and Kimberly Dickerson 9 days to complete.
Lia said the mural is special because it’s a representation of her hometown.
“I feel like all these ideas are very dear to my heart and some of them are jokes like the golfing and stuff like that,” said Littlewood.
Stefanie Littlewood also worked on the mural and said it shows that Yuma is more than what meets the eye and has a rich culture.
“I worked on a kayak, but it actually looks like an avocado. So, we’re calling it the avocado boat, said Stefanie Littlewood, “And then also I really the love artichoke fields I think those are beautiful.”
Yuma International Airport approached the Littlewood Community Co-Op because they’ve worked together in the past and they wanted in on their murals.
“We wanted to have the opportunity to thank all of the guests that come to Yuma international Airport and we want to celebrate Yuma’s history,” said Gen Grosse, Yuma International Airport Community Relations.
This mural is also a part of the Littlewood Community Co-Op’s mural a month project with NextGen.
Lia said they are always looking for walls to paint on.
