Local business upset over city construction project

The manager of La Fonda in Yuma said she’s outraged after a city project shut down streets surrounding her business.

Franchesca Ramos said her restaurant has been a Yuma staple for decades.

That’s why she said she’s devastated the project has affected her business.

“It’s not convenient,” Ramos said. “It’s not easy. ‘How do I get here, the road is closed?'”

According to Ramos, the business has suffered a decrease in revenue in comparison to 2017.

“It’s extremely frustrating, extremely frustrating,” Ramos said. “It’s terrifying because just this month along we are about $40,000 less than we were last year.”

A city official said the project began in February. And while Ramos said she has been negatively effected by the project, the city said the restaurant has always been accessible to employees and customers.

In the meantime, Ramos encourages customers to visit her restaurant.

“I’ve seen it, I’ve seen the community rally and support families and businesses,” Ramos said. I just hope that it will happen again for us.”
