Harkins Theatres denied a liquor license
Would you be interested in an alcoholic beverage with your popcorn and movie? Last summer the possibility of a liquor license at Harkins theatres in Yuma was talked about.
A not so far fetched concept since bars in movie theaters have actually become a trend around the country. We were told that city council voted yes on the idea on August 16th of last year. When we contacted the corporate offices in Scottsdale, this is what they had to say.
“Thank you for reaching out regarding the liquor license at Harkins Yuma Palms. At this time, we do not have plans scheduled to add a bar to this location, ” said Morgan Sales, Marketing Program Manager.
While a lot of people were happy with the decision, we spoke with some locals that were very disappointed.
“I’m kinda bummed about it. I kinda would like a cold beer once in a while with a good movie,” said Christopher Madera.
“It would just be nice to sit back, relax, have a drink with a friend, while we’re watching a movie and enjoy it,” said Belinda Ingle.
“If people are voting against it because they’re worried about people coming through the theater to get drunk, i think that’s really a shame,” said, Carmine Scelza
It is still unclear whether the decision was made by the state or if it was corporate themselves that vetoed the plan. Regardless, the popularity of serving alcoholic beverages at movie theaters doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
