Good samaritan rescues several during fire
One local man stepped into action saving more than 15 people, after seeing the Prison Hill brush fire ablaze on Sunday.
It was just a normal day on the Colorado River for Ryan Fulton, until he saw the flames blazing. He then jumped into action, but does not consider himself a hero.
“I’m considered a hero now, but I’m just a regular guy that was out fishing. The situation happened and I had to think fast.” said Fulton.
One of the people that Fulton rescued is Pam Davis, a regular at the river.
Davis was able to meet up with Fulton, after her son was able to connect them via Facebook on Monday.
Davis thanked Fulton for rescuing her.
“He wasn’t thinking about himself at all. He was thinking about everybody on the river. He made several trips back and forth letting people know not to go any further.” said Davis.
Fulton used his $50 fishing boat, that is made for shallow water, to make rounds and make sure that people in the area were safe until first responders were able to get to the scene.
He even left with a few burns.
“I ran through it and got them to safety. It was pretty hot. We all got burned. I got burned the most because I was out in the water.” said Fulton.
Both Fulton and Davis described the scene of the fire to News 11.
While Davis explained the situation as scary, Fulton explained how the fire jumped the river causing flames to surround the water.
“I could see that it jumped the river and both sides were blazing. High flames. High heat. You can hear, we were 2-3 yards away and you could hear the crackling and popping of the fire. It was intense. At that point, the current was taking us and we just reacted fast.” said Fulton.
