Dog dies after being set on fire by AZ woman

A woman is behind bars after setting a dog on fire.

According to Tucson Police Department, 39-year-old Dean Sherfield Finley had purchased two gallons of gas the day of the incident. A family member noticed that their dog Lovely was wet. As they picked up Lovely, Finley set the animal on fire. The relative was able to put the fire on the dog out, but afterwards Finley set the home on fire which caused damage to the storage and laundry room.

According to the Tucson Fire Department, it took ten units and twenty-one firefighters to get the fire under control.

Lovely was taken to the Pima Animal Care Center for treatment. However, despite the vet’s best effort, Lovely went into cardiac arrest days following the incident and did not survive.

Finley was booked into the Pima County Jail for arson of an occupied structure, animal cruelty, and criminal damage.
