Health officials: Yuma lettuce an “unlikely threat” as more E. coli cases reported
Health officials said Wednesday that it is “unlikely” that any romaine lettuce grown in Yuma is still available as more E. coli cases are being reported nationwide.
The Center for Disease Control said 23 more cases have been reported in 13 states. Iowa, Nebraska, and Oregon have now joined the list of states reporting E. coli cases linked to romaine lettuce.
The CDC added that the last date of harvest for the romaine lettuce from the Yuma growing region was April 16th.
A total of 172 cases were reported between the dates of March 13th to May 2nd with one death reported in California, according to the CDC.
The agency continues with its investigation to find the source of the contamination.
