77 trees planted to celebrate local Rotarians in Yuma County

Fort Yuma Rotary Club members planted 77 trees to commemorate their service to the community of Yuma.

Across the nation, Rotarians were challenged to plant one tree for every Rotarian in their club.

With 75 members in the club, this service is one of the few projects the club has achieved this year.

“Rotarians know the importance of service to our community. We are all deeply committed to our Rotary motto and our desire to help the Yuma Community as much as possible” said Brian Geren, Fort Yuma Rotary President.

Of the 77 trees, five were planted were planted at the Humane Society of Yuma, 47 were planted in the Crane School District, 18 were planted in the District One School District, two went to Yuma Catholic High School and five were purchased and planted by members at locations of their choosing.

“We are excited that the majority of these trees will benefit the children in our schools. Since we were able to plant shade and citrus trees, they will have shady places to play while also growing fruit which will help them in their studies of agriculture in school” said Geren.

Most of the trees planted were donated by JSA Company, Sunset Nursery, and Glen Curtis Inc.
