Rock the vote

The Imperial County Registrars of Voters Office is using a mobile unit to promote early voting and giving residents an alternate option to vote.

“This is so we can try to increase voter participation, and as a convenience to our voters. Maybe they’re not going to be around on election day, so they can see the mobile unit out, stop in and vote,” said Debra Porter of Registrars of Voters.

They’re bringing the voting polls to the community, making it accessible for all registered voters. Christine Beltran,Registrars of voters office clerk said, “so we’re trying to go to the places that are easy to get to. For everybody in each community or city. So that they have a chance to go out there.”

More than 300 registered voters used the mobile service in the last Presidential Election. Election officials hope residents take this opportunity to go out and vote. Porter said they’re,”always looking for way to offer more. Trying to get our voters out there. It doesn’t do you any good to be a registered voter if you don’t vote. You need to get out and vote.”

With less than 17 percent of registered voters making the trip to the polls in the last general election, election officials think the mobile unit will increase those odds. The mobile unit will be visiting seven different communities starting next week. The primary election is on June 5th.
