4th District Congressman makes special visit

As the story goes years back a team member at Congressman Paul Gosar’s office pitched an idea to have kids across the state compete in an Easter card decorating contest. According to the congressman the first year they received just over a hundred entries, fast forward to present day and this year they received well over two thousand entries.

It’s because of that contest that Congressman visited the Desert Southwest to recognize one special girl. Emily Benetiz an eleven year old who uses the Boys and Girls Club won this year. Emily was given a special certificate and given a copy of the United States Constitution. Emily’s card was called “Egg-tastic” and featured a baby chick hatching out of an egg.

During his visit the congressman talked to each child and asked what they wanted to do when they grew up. At one point, the congressman was taken back when a child said they wanted to be a dentist; Congressman Gosar is a dentist by trade. The congressman also stunned onlookers when he discovered that it was the birthday of a girl named Taylor. He then sang what he called the congress birthday song.

After the visit with the children Salvation Army staff gave the congressman a tour of the recently remodeled facility. We spoke to Congressman Gosar and asked why he felt it was necessary to deliver the certificate himself.
