Border Agents apprehend convicted sex offender

Calexico Border Patrol agents arrested a previously convicted sex offender around 7:30 p.m. on April 19.

The 55-year-old Mexican National, identified as Jose Humberto-Diaz, was suspected of making an illegal entry into the United States.

Diaz has been previously arrested and convicted for felony assault to commit mayhem rape in San Diego County. He also has an active warrant out for his arrest involving dangerous drugs out of San Bernandino, California from a separate incident.

The man is being held in federal custody pending prosecution for Re-entry After Removal.

“The infrastructure and technological resources available to our agents aid in arresting individuals such as these and allows us to keep the residents of California and our nation safe,” said El Centro Sector Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim.
