The 31st annual Yuma County Teacher of the Year ceremony

The 31st annual Yuma County Teacher of the Year banquet will be held on April 24th. This year 128 teachers K-12 in Yuma County were nominated for the honor.

The whole point of the event is to bring attention to the rigorous and exceptional work teachers do in our community. What makes this honor so special is the fact that teachers are nominated by their peers. There are six categories in which teachers can win including primary, intermediate, outstanding first year teacher, special area, middle school and high school teacher. While the winners have yet to be announced, Crane school district is proud to announce two of their employees made the semi-finalist round.

“The Educational Foundations and the Rotary Club of Yuma work very hard in selecting the candidates for that. We are honored to have two semi-finalist this year. Vivian Klee of Crane Middle School, a English and Language Arts teacher and Wendy Espinoza, a 6th grade teacher at Rancho Viejo,” said Mike Hoffman, the Assistant Superintendent of Crane school district.

The ceremony starts at 5pm at the Yuma Civic Center. Teachers who have won in the past will be recognized and this years theme is superheroes so don’t be surprised if you see attendees in costume.
