Cat walks 12 miles back to his family, but they ask a shelter to euthanize him

A cat missed his former owners and walked 12 miles back to the family, who then tried to have him put down.

The 7-year-old cat named Toby was given away after his original family no longer wanted him, according to the SPCA of Wake County in North Carolina. Instead of settling in to his new digs, Toby returned to his first humans.

The rescue agency said the initial owners still didn’t want Toby, and actually took him to an animal shelter to be euthanized.

“When he arrived, he was met with heartbreak,” the SPCA wrote in a Facebook post. “The family he thought had loved him took him to a shelter and asked staff to euthanize him.”

The SPCA said the shelter instead sought its help in getting Toby a loving home.

Last week, the SPCA reported Toby found a new home and even has an Instagram page. A video of Toby has had more than 5,300 views.
