The right team with the right plan
Calexico officials announced a series of changes to help balance the budget this year.
It was all part of tonight’s state of the city address. Mayor Martiza Hurtado says she has faith they can overcome their one million dollar budget deficit by restructuring several departments. Officials say they are looking at the problems of the city and facing them head on.
We spoke with Miguel Figueroa, the interim assistant City Manager who said, “one of the things we want to prioritize and show is that we’ve turned the page. The city is moving forward with a progressive agenda. In which we will be able to address, not only the issues that effect our local economy but at the same time address the public service needs that our city has.”
The Mayor didn’t announce a budget for the upcoming year, but did say that it’s obvious they have a financial crisis. With the right leadership from the city management team, they have a plan they hope will improve the situation.
