Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot traveled to Las Cruces, N.M. this week to attend the annual Southwestern Border Sheriff’s Coalition.

Sheriff Wilmot along with law enforcement from 31 counties from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California who are located within 25 miles of the U.S./Mexico border met to discuss border security issues.

KVIA in El Paso, Texas reported that those in attendance had the opportunity to participate in different training sessions and hear from guest speakers with the goal to join forces to make the border safer.

The U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is expected to speak to the coalition on Wednesday.
