Shuttle drivers needed at YRMC
Can you stand the heat? The Yuma regional medical center is looking for volunteers and news 11’s Madison Kimbro took a shuttle ride today to get the scoop on the immediate need for shuttle drivers at the hospital.
In the winter months, volunteers are eager to get out and drive in the brisk air, but come summer time the hospital sees a significant decrease in volunteers. Recently YRMC has created a shuttle service for the emergency department, labor and delivery.
It is crucial that the hospital finds people willing to to take the time to transport these patients. Elizabeth Hammond, the director of volunteer services, explains the time frame in which they need help and the name of the new shuttle line.
“We have about 35 that are year round, probably another 15 to 20 winter visitors. They are leaving so there are some open positions just really throughout the day, but we really want to focus on the evenings and our weekends. What we want to do is be able to dedicate volunteer cart drivers to our redline,” said Hammond.
Hammond also adds that there are tons of other opportunities where you can lend your services, if shuttle driving isn’t your thing. You can visit YumaRegional.org/Volunteers or call (928) 336-1105 for more information. FUN FACT: There were just over 140,000 shuttle rides given last year so the need for your services is great.
