Courage under fire

A fire broke out near the Rio Bend RV Golf Resort, forcing close to five hundred residents to evacuate from their homes. I spoke with the Imperial County Chief Battalion who say they hope to completely extinguish the fire later today .

Angel Morales, the Imperial County Battalion Chief said, “we’re…hopefully by the end of today …we’ll have all these hotspots either put out or self midigated.”

Larry Kalas, the resort manager, was one of the first who made the initial call that alerted the fire department “.When we first called it was just fire out, on the far side of the river bank and the wind was blowing this way. And the wind was fanning the flames so we thought, we called the fire department and made the initial report.”

After the smoke had settled and it was deemed safe, Greg Hansen, who returned home was relieved that nothing was destroyed. “Oh it was terrific. I was so sure that everything was going to go up because of the storage of all the motor homes. I thought all those LP tanks would start going. And it was going to be one after another. But luckily they got it out.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
