Driver crashes into farm tractor on Main Street and Union Avenue

Somerton Cocopah Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle accident involving a farm tractor at Main Street and Union Avenue on Sunday at 5:00 a.m.

The driver of a black GMC pickup was traveling eastbound and went around the barricades at Cesar Chavez Avenue. He then continued eastbound to Union Avenue, driving through the second set of barricades, followed by a setup water filled K-rail barricades, and finally stopping after impacting a farm tractor which had been staged as a blockade for the Somerton Greater Days celebration the day before.

The driver was uninjured, refused treatment and was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center.

The Somerton Police Department has charged the driver with extreme driving while under the influence.
