Pioneer Museum exhibits winning artwork from local artists in the valley.
Over a decade ago, Ginger Ryerson and her husband John, began an art movement at the Pioneer Museum, which has grown over the years, show casing the art work of local artists in the Imperial Valley. Now in it’s thirteenth year, the annual art exhibit of the Blue and Red ribbon art winners from the mid winter fair and fiesta opened last week.
Ginger says, “the fair seems to be one of the few things, few times that an artist can show their work. My idea was that if we can extend that to a longer period of time, it would give artists a better chance to get out into the community, for their work to be seen by the community.”
Ginger also says the museum has benefited from those who came to see the arts at the exhibit.”The whole thing is a real bonus for the museum. Because it brings people into the museum to see it. Pioneers Museum is the best known secret in the Imperial Valley.”
The exhibit gives local residents a taste of the artists who are right in their back yard. “The people that live here, they can see how the culture is growing and developing. That there’s very fine artists right here in Imperial Valley. You don’t have to go to the coast to find a good artist.”
The museum also dedicated a wall on the second floor for artwork from other local artists in the Imperial Valley. The art exhibit for the Blue and Red Ribbon Art Winners closes this Sunday and is free with a paid purchase of admission to the museum.
