Former police officer is accused of sex crimes against minors
Authorities said bail remains at 1 million dollars for Ray Valenzuela, the former City of Imperial Police Officer accused of multiple felonies.
Lt. Jimmy Duran, Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, said, “Sodomy by force or fear with a minor. Oral copulation with a child under 14 years of age. Arriving to a pre-arranged location for sex with a minor and lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under 14 years of age.”
He said they are very serious charges relating to sex with a minor.
“At this point we can tell you that there are some people that have come forward and are talking to us in reference to being alleged victims of Ray Valenzuela and we’re still investigating.”
The investigation began early February and Valenzuela was arrested on the 22 nd .
“He was arrested the same day at the same day search warrants were served for his place of business and for his home and vehicle,” Duran said.
Duran said there may be more victims.
“If you are yourself a victim or you know someone who is a victim, we would encourage you to contact us,” Duran said.
He cautioned crimes like this one, which began with online contact, are increasing, and are becoming a national problem.
He encourages parents to supervise their kids’ online activities.
“What they’re watching online, who they’re talking to online. Make sure that you look at their devices. That are not being contacted by individuals who are going to end up in the same situation as Ray Valenzuela,” Duran said.
Duran explained that the arrest was a joint operation between the Sheriff’s Office and City of Imperial Police Department. Ray Valenzuela is due back in court later this month.
