CTE visits Arizona State Capitol

Career and Technical Education students from around Yuma Union High School Distinct visited the Arizona State Capitol on February 27, 2018.

The trip included meeting with Representatives Charlene Fernandez, Darin Mitchell and Senator Bill Kerr. Students also got to visit the House Democratic Caucus and tour the capital, including the library and Wesley Bowen Memorial Plaza.

In addition to the trip, YUHSD CTE had a packed schedule of events throughout February.

Cibola High School’s FFA took part in the District Career Development Event competition at Arizona Western College, made a presentation to the YUHSD Governing Board along with Yuma High School and Gila Ridge High School.

They also attended the Ag Summit and volunteered at the annual Harvest Dinner.

SkillsUSA students attended the Auto S.T.E.M. Day at the Drag Races in Chandler, Arizona.

San Luis High School passed out “thank you” postcards and unique coffee mugs to all SLHS CTE teachers on Valentine’s Day, represented their respective CTE organizations with dress up days, passed out flyers and organized activities at lunch to generate student interest.

“It was a great trip” YUHSD CTE Coordinator Lorie Honeycutt said. “It was another opportunity to advocate for Career & Technical Education, our students’ CTE Programs and our school district.”

CTE month is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the country.
