AzCA helps guide foster youth

Hundreds of kids age out of the foster care system every year. Arizona’s Children Association has a mentor program designed to help kids ages 16-21 transition into independent living successfully.

One student who has followed through with this program and has received many of the benefits this program has to offer is Yohan Stokes, a student and athlete at Yuma Catholic High School.

Stokes is a foster care child who was left at birth. After a rocky road and even facing jail time, he was able to get back on his feet and get involved in activities that helped him stay away from trouble.

Last year, he became involved with the Young Adult Services program that AzCA offers and met his mentor, Claudia Caballero, who has helped him with many things from choosing the right school to even helping him get a driving permit.
