It’s National Blood Donor Month

January is National Blood Donor Month and all across Yuma county people are donating for those in need.

Today at Yuma County Adult Probation, they held a blood drive with United Blood Services. It was a great turn out as several members of the community came out and donated their time and blood. In the wake of extremely cold temperatures on the east coast along with the deadly flu influenza we have been experiencing country wide, there has been a significant shortage in donated blood. While everyone has a different blood type, all blood is useful and can save lives. That was the case with eight year-old Zoiey Gaines of Yuma. Her dad shares her story.

“About 4 years ago, my daughter was diagnosed with cancer, she had to have about 10 to 12 blood transfusions. blood is important, especially when it comes to your child. if it wasn’t for the donors that donated the blood, i don’t think my daughter would be here today,” said Zoiey’s dad Eric.

People often forget that simple acts like donating can make such a huge difference. The next blood drive is being held tomorrow at 9:30 am at Westwind Golf and RV resort.
