Brawley native appointed new presiding judge for Imperial County Superior Court

Diane Altamirano has been appointed the new presiding judge for the Superior Court of California, County of Imperial.

Judge Altamirano is the first woman to serve as presiding judge in the 110-year history of Imperial County.

Judge Altamirano, a Brawley native, was unanimously elected as presiding judge of the court for 2018-2019 by Superior Court judges. Before her election, Judge Altamirano served as the assistant presiding judge for two years.

“I am humbled by the support of my colleagues and honored to serve and represent our Court locally and on a state level,” Judge Altamirano said.

Judge Altamirano was appointed to the bench in 2010 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and then was the first woman to be elected by the voters as a Superior Court Judge in Imperial County.
