New sensors set to help Arizona commerce

Their a staple of our nation’s commerce, eighteen wheelers carrying loads across the country and some to our bordering neighbors. For these drivers, every minute counts and with regulations on drive time and unforeseen issues like mechanical problems stopping at weigh stations at each state can be time consuming, until now.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has been putting in weigh-in motion sensors along many of it’s major roadways and one is schedule to be installed on Interstate 8 near Yuma. Construction is set to begin in January 2018; The sensor will be placed at mile post 1.8 of Interstate 8 and will feature a scaling system and cameras which will read the trucks identification numbers. The information gathered by the sensors will be compared to previous weight check ins and if the truck passes it will not have to stop.

ADOT released details regarding this new addition to their system and asked that motorist traveling in the area to expect delays and are reporting that the cameras are used solely to identify the vehicle and not to control speed.
