Firefighters save truck after cargo trailer catches fire

A cargo trailer caught fire on Wednesday at 4:23 p.m. near Avenue G and Highway 95.

Somerton Cocopah Firefighters responded to a cargo trailer on fire. Officials were able to quickly put out the fire saving the pickup truck that was hauling the cargo trailer. The pickup truck suffered minor damage on the tailgate. The trailer and its contents, which included tortillas and pastries, were a total loss.

The driver that was hauling the trailer said he had mechanical issues with the trailer’s axle and pulled over on the side of the road.

Officials say the driver stated he was taking a tire off the trailer when another passerby told him black smoke was coming from the top of the trailer.
