Families fighting cancer get funds from dancing event
Six local families got an early Christmas present to help them keep fighting cancer.
Six families received a check for $12,000 dollars to be equally distributed among them on Wednesday evening. The group Amigos de Alejandro, representing those families fighting cancer, received those funds from organizers of the Bailando Por Un Sueno event that took place recently.
The dancing competition event pairs local personalities with dance instructors to put on the fundraiser. Organizers said they are touched by the plight and optimism of the families.
Amigos de Alejandro Director Elba Quezada said there are over 70 families locally whose kids are fighting cancer. She said these funds will go a long way to help them out.
“Especially at this time of the year – Christmas. These families need to be going to San Diego once, sometimes twice a week. Meaning gas expenses, meaning food, meaning most likely one of the parents has stopped working so they can take care of the diagnosed kid, diagnosed teenager. So, that means less income into the family,” Quezada said.
