National Community Planning Month

October is ‘National Community Planning Month’ and Yuma’s City Hall has a variety of ways to get the community involved.

It’s a month highlighting the role of planners and planning in our community and this year’s theme is innovation. That’s exactly why Yuma’s City Hall has created a planners nook on the first floor of City Hall to get the public involved in what they want to see done in their community. The city was looking for innovative ways to get people to think about community planners and what better way than with a wishing tree and a place where you can play and build your own city. Dave Nash with the city of Yuma explains what the the most popular activity has been.

“In there, you can make a wish on the wishing tree. This has been one of our most popular features of this area, you can take a little leaf, we have on the table there and fill out what your wish is for your neighborhood or community and then tie it on to that tree with a little twisty and presto we have leaves on the tree and a lot of wishes for things we like to see in our community,” said Nash.

Nash also adds that the city is hosting a photo scavenger hunt that is going on all month. Every weekday, there will be a topic posted on the city’s Twitter and Facebook page, to enter all you have to do is reply to the ‘topic of the day’ with your original photo and you could be chosen to win four tickets to see the Christmas play at the Yuma Historic Theater. Contest ends October 31st.
