YUHSD taking part in Great Arizona ShakeOut

Yuma Union High School District sites will be taking part in the 2017 “Great Arizona ShakeOut” on Thursday, Oct. 19th.

The Great Arizona ShakeOut helps practice how to be safer during big earthquakes every year.

It was organized to encourage individuals, their communities, schools, and organizations to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies, and also secure space in order to prevent damage and injuries.

The expectation is that no matter where you are at 10:19 a.m., you should “Drop, Cover and Hold On” as if there was a major earthquake occurring at that very moment, and stay in that position for at least 60 seconds.

Some of the YUHSD campuses will be using Thursday to practice larger-scale disaster and emergency preparedness as well as participate in the shakeout with the rest of the state at 10:19 a.m.

It is expected to be the largest-ever earthquake drill in Arizona.
